Intro When I was just thirteen years old, on that day in late spring of 1941, I first saw her. On that day, Mussolini declared war on Britain and France, and I received my first bicycle in life. She, with her wavy black shiny hair, dressed in the most fashionable short skirt and stockings, and wearing seductive high heels, arrived in the sunny little town of Sicily. Every movement she made caught attention and stirred imagination, and every smile and frown from her made men enamored and women envious. Malena, like a goddess, conquered this seaside paradise. At only thirteen, Renato couldn’t help but fall into the whirlwind stirred by Malena. He not only rode around the town on his bike with other older youths, searching for Malena’s enticing figure and charm, but also quietly became her unaware little follower, shadowing and spying on her life. Her swaying silhouette, the music she listened to, and her intimate garments became the most real and beautiful desires of this boy drowned in hormones. However, through Renato’s eyes, we also saw Malena falling into an increasingly dark situation.
